I believe in the healing power of nature and that plants, as natural medicines, work in harmony with our bodies. At Hedgerow Herbal, I offer traditional holistic healthcare taking time to fully understand and assess your needs so that I can treat the cause of the health problem, not just the symptoms. The medicines I make are bespoke from plants and natural ingredients.
Herbal medicine differs from conventional medicine in that it considers patients holistically, their emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being, and how these all impact their health. Conventional medicine primarily focuses on the physical, rarely on the emotional and spiritual causes of ill health.
In this same way, herbal medicines differ from conventional medicines which are usually conceived from isolated plant extracts that are often synthesised to create a specific formulation and strength. These are typically mixed with other materials to form medicines. Herbal medicines are formed from whole plant extractions. These contain multiple plant constituents (the medicinal compounds) that work together much like systems in a body. Because multiple constituents work together, there is a balancing effect to reduce side effects and work more harmoniously to restore health.
Herbal medicine uses a detailed understanding of human biology, plant chemistry, and other aspects, such as tissue states and energetics, to diagnose and formulate treatment.
You can visit a herbal practitioner for a wide variety of health concerns, much like you would a GP.
At Hedgerow Herbal, I offer my knowledge of plant medicines and their therapeutic applications to provide a holistic approach to your healthcare goals.
If you want a more natural approach, a more detailed review of your health, or if you just don't feel like yourself but can't figure out why, I'm here to support your needs. I provide a unique and personalised experience to help find the root cause of your symptoms or concerns.
If you have concerns about using pharmaceuticals, their side effects, or their environmental impact, or feel that conventional healthcare is not for you, a natural, more traditional approach with Hedgerow Herbal could be the right solution. I use all-natural ingredients specifically selected to work in harmony with your body and aim to responsibly forage, grow, and produce many of my medicines.
I can work with your healthcare providers if you want additional support in addition to conventional therapy or medicine and offer home consultations if you can't make it to my clinic.
Here at Hedgerow Herbal, I aim to help you take control of your health.

With over 20 years of experience working in the horticulture industry, I developed a fascination with medicinal plants and their properties. This inspired me to complete a Diploma in Herbalism, but I wanted to understand more, which led me to pursue a degree in Clinical Herbalism. This helped me establish a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of plant healing.
After taking patients under the supervision of established clinical herbalists, I am excited to use my passion and knowledge to run my own clinic.
Foraging was introduced to me as a child through blackberry picking and sucking the sweet sap from white dead nettle flowers; this has evolved into harvesting ingredients for preserves, alcohols, vinegars, and crafts. I now harvest for herbal teas and medicinal use. You will often find me amongst the hedgerows and field margins, and I usually have something brewing or macerating at home. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and hope to connect people with plants through my clinic and workshops.
I aim to explore the healing potential of native plants in a country that has forgotten much of its traditional medical knowledge. I hope to combine horticulture and herbal medicine to create a physic garden grow a diverse range of medicinal plants to make my medicines and teas, creating a sustainable clinical practice and herbal tea business.
January is the time we think about detoxing ...
Ever heard of Dandelion and Burdock?
Both these plants help detox the body. Dandelion and Burdock was originally a tonic to support liver health and help the body process overindulgence and winter stagnation a spring clean of the body.
The roots of these plants are harvested during autumn or winter, decocted with a few warming spices, and made into a cordial for a delicious medicinal drink.
Why not have a go at making some...
Struggling with circulation over winter?
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum/zeylanicum) is a delicious warming herb that I use to improve circulation. Classed as a diaphoretic and circulatory stimulant, it helps move blood to your peripheries. It also has so many other benefits, for the nervous system it's a relaxant and can help with stress and fatigue, it's uplifting and can help with SADs; It can aid digestion and protect the gut lining from infection; and with antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties it's good generally for the immune system.
So, I really recommend adding it to your porridge, pancakes, or anything else you might fancy it on. You can also buy cinnamon quills to add to a tea.
If you do struggle with circulation and would like a warming circulation tea please get in touch.
Meet Galium aparine
Gallium aparine, also known as Cleavers or sticky bud, is one of my favourite herbs (but then I do have a lot). You will see it popping up all over the place. I use it as a lymphatic tonic and diuretic. It's useful for eliminating fluid toxins from the body, so it's great as a Spring tonic. I also find it helpful in treating skin conditions, generally in immune imbalances and illnesses such as tonsilitis and glandular fever.
I like it in tea or fresh in a glass of cold water. It's easy to use: just pick a few stem tips and add to hot or cold water. If you want to dry them, lay them spread out on a tray, allowing plenty of air to circulate, or hand longer stems upside down until dry and crisp to the touch. Then, you can store them in a container to use at any time.
